This project explores the effects that a religious upbringing has on the development of the feminine identity.  From the suppression of individuality and sexuality growing up to the drastic transition of trying to establish a connection with my body alone and with others as a teenager and then young woman, this series records the thoughts belonging to myself and the words belonging to others that have left a mark on me in the process thus far. Presented as self portraits on canvas with thread hand sewn through them, the images demonstrate the lasting effects and the grip that a conservative upbringing can have, as well as the potential for it to be unraveled.
